On June 22–23, 2026, experts from the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of Ecology of the Sea joined online the international event “Living Lab at Floating Pilot Site”, hosted in Constanța, Romania, by the “Grigore Antipa” National Institute for Marine Research and Development (NIMRD) as part of the ALGAWA project.
The goal of the event was to showcase and practically demonstrate floating biofilters as a Nature-based Solution (NbS) for water treatment and the reduction of anthropogenic pressure on aquatic ecosystems.
The workshop agenda included:
• Presentation of the overarching concept, objectives, and expected outcomes of the ALGAWA project;
• Overview of the scientific framework and research methodologies;
• Highlights of key achievements by project partners;
• Laboratory visit to NIMRD;
• Field trip to the floating biofilter pilot site at Tomis Harbour;
• Stakeholder engagement session;
• Consortium partners meeting, held on June 23.
UkrSCES’s participation provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of testing biofiltration systems under real-world conditions, enabled discussion on the upcoming implementation phases, and strengthened collaboration with international partners committed to protecting the Black Sea.
